From Bungy to Vertigo – The Next Big Leap at Velocity Valley

For 25 years, we’ve been Rotorua’s favourite adventure park, a place where we’ve dared to be different and where innovation and adrenaline collide. Back in 1999, we brought the bungy phenomenon to Rotorua, with tens of thousands of eager jumpers having taken the plunge over the years. Now, it’s time for Bungy to be farewelled – because we’ve launched an even bigger, crazier, and more extreme experience! Fasten your seatbelts as we dive into the history of bungy jumping in Rotorua and meet Vertigo, a 43-metre-high freefall jump that’ll blow your mind.

Originally known as Agroventures, we’ve played a pioneering role in the evolution of adventure tourism in Rotorua. Over the years, we’ve added plenty of epic rides to our park – becoming the ultimate playground for thrill-seekers young and old. Our adventure hub has introduced Kiwis and international tourists alike to a wide array of adrenaline-pumping experiences, including the iconic Agrojet, a high-octane jetsprint ride, and Swoop, a heart-pounding swing that sends you soaring through the air at speed of up to 130km/hr. Agroventures laid the foundation of innovation and exhilaration for what would eventually become Velocity Valley in 2018.

Bungy at Velocity Valley

It was 1999 that saw Rotorua’s first-and-only bungy jump launch on-site – check out that retro colour scheme! But, as all great adventurers know, innovation is the key to staying on top. So, in 2023 we’ve taken our commitment to adventure to new heights – literally. And so, the latest adrenaline fix to hit Rotorua is born – meet Vertigo.

Imagine standing on a platform, 43 meters above the ground, with nothing but air between you and the earth. The countdown begins, your heart races, and before you know it, you’re in a breathtaking freefall. But here’s the catch – there’s no cord, no string, just pure gravity. Nothing but net, Vertigo provides an incredible rush that you just can’t experience anywhere else.

What makes Vertigo stand out even more is that it’s unlike any other ride in New Zealand. Nowhere offers a freefall jump of this magnitude with absolutely nothing to hold onto. It’s a leap of faith, a test of courage, and a unique experience that everyone’s flocking to try out – and is racking up over 8 million views on TikTok.

Lady in a helmet

The journey from Bungy to Vertigo is a testament to the spirit of adventure that flows through our veins. Kiwis are well-known for their passion for pushing boundaries, exploring the great outdoors, and embracing the thrill of the unknown. Vertigo is a bold step in that direction, offering a unique, adrenaline-fuelled experience that you won’t be able to resist trying out for yourself. While it marks an end of an era for bungy extremists… who needs a bungy cord anyway? This no-strings-attached experience replaces the classic jump and adds a whole new dimension.

So leave your comfort zone behind, take the plunge, and let the adventure begin!
