Your guide to New Zealand’s unique theme parks

New Zealand is widely known for its Kiwi ingenuity, always coming up with fun solutions to problems and thinking outside of the box. And that creativity is seen first-hand when it comes to our adrenaline-fuelled fun parks! We might not always have the biggest parks or fastest rides, but we do have plenty of passion for creating fun-filled experiences for both young and old.

We have combined our country’s most iconic and wacky Kiwi-style theme parks to add to your next travels! We guarantee that you and your family or friends will have a blast, and return home with lots of great stories to tell.

Rainbow’s End – Auckland

Starting with Aotearoa’s biggest and most iconic theme park – Rainbows End. Featuring over 20 thrill rides from rollercoasters to log flumes and dodgems – this is a perfect Auckland family destination. Treat yourself to some candy floss and churros, as you create your own fun-filled day. Young ones will love Kidz Kingdom, and the virtual reality games, arcade machines and escape rooms.

Velocity Valley – Rotorua

Home to some of New Zealand’s greatest adrenaline inventions, this is the place to be for all thrill seekers. The Agrojet is the world’s first ever commercial jetsprint boat, making waves in a custom-designed course. You’ll reach speeds of almost 100km/h and feel up to 3Gs of force. If you are wanting to get a workout in at the same time, the Shweeb Racer will have you pedalling hard as you race your mates around the only course of its kind in the world! The giant swing Swoop is another way to feel the rush – go solo or with one or two friends, rip the cord, and experience the swing of a lifetime.

Kiwi Water Park – Cromwell

Supercharge your typical dip in the lake – this South Island inflatable water park was set up by an innovative Kiwi who wanted to bring a splash of fun to summer! It is the biggest one of its kind in the country and only a short drive from Queenstown and Wanaka. The obstacle course, water toys, giant slides and diving boards will keep kids (and big kids!) entertained for hours – and the ‘blob’ is a favourite.

Spookers – Auckland

Best for the bigger kids or if you’re a group of adults – Spookers is made for people with nerves made of steel and who aren’t afraid of a ‘taste of terror’. In an abandoned psychiatric ward and mental hospital in South Auckland’s Kingseat lies Spookers, perhaps the epitome of all haunted attractions in New Zealand, and even the entire Southern Hemisphere! Round up your bravest friends and take on four themed experiences, each with their own thrills and chills.

From the blood-curdling Haunted House to The Woods, complete with chainsaw-carrying monsters, to a psychedelic-clown themed Disturbia and a slimy, swampy Fog; you’ll be left screaming, running and in fits of laughter in between. You won’t be alone – creepy creatures lurk in the shadows, ready to scare you when you least expect it.

The lights, sounds, visual effects, and costumes set the atmosphere for a truly terrifying time – one that you’ll never forget! For some adrenaline-filled, nail-biting R18 and R13 fun – Spookers is calling your name.
