Addicted to Freefall Xtreme: Who, What and Why

Jumping out of a plane and skydiving is a dream for a lot of people. And for others, it’s as far down their bucket-list as possible.

We get that. The simple idea of throwing yourself out of a perfectly fine plane does sound illogical. Yet, skydiving is one of the most popular adventure sports in the world and with the rise of indoor skydiving as a sport, there’s definitely a demand from adrenaline seekers.

What is Freefall Xtreme?

Enter Freefall Xtreme. Velocity Valley is home to New Zealand’s only outdoor wind tunnel in operation and the only one of its kind in the entire Southern Hemisphere. If you’ve ever dreamed of flying, then Freefall Xtreme is your match – it’s an adventure experience that’s as addictive as it is exhilarating.

Why is it so addictive?

That must be it – the sensation we crave. Freefalling is that coveted feeling of being absolutely weightless – flying, falling, spinning, twisting, and turning under the sole force of gravity. It’s an addiction for some and a once-in-a-lifetime-must-do for many.

Soaring above at 220 km/h in an outdoor wind tunnel, you are literally on a high. It’s 90 seconds of pure euphoria and you wonder if quite possibly this is what heaven feels like, just like floating through the clouds. You feel invincible. You want more. It’s no wonder we have so many repeat visitors taking on Freefall Xtreme. Even the New Zealand Skydiving School practices flying and trains at Velocity Valley.

The whole session is approximately 15 minutes long, so it won’t take up your entire day. You get full training, a safety briefing, time to get your flight gear on and suit up as well as the same magical freefalling sensation you would jumping out of a plane, except now you don’t have to take it to the skies. Plus, your 90 seconds of flight time with Freefall Xtreme is actually longer than the average 12,000 feet skydive freefall.

Who can ride Freefall Xtreme?

You don’t have to have any previous experience to take on Freefall Xtreme. People of all ages and abilities can experience the thrilling rush of Freefall Xtreme. We don’t have age requirements, but you must be at least 1 meter tall to fly with us, with a minimum weight of 20 kg and a maximum weight of 160 kg.
